Who runs Scoop Kitchen
Scoop Kitchen is a small, non-commercial recipe site run by one person. For anything about your data, use the report button on any recipe or review. You can delete your account and everything in it yourself on the account page.
Without an account
Your machine, units, light or dark choice, saved recipes, freezer timers and shopping list are kept in your browser's local storage on this device. They are not sent to us. We set no cookies, and we count visits without them (see visitor statistics). There are no ads.
Visitor statistics
We count page views to see which recipes people read and where readers come from. For each page view we store only the page, whether it was the first page of a visit, the website you came from (just its name, such as google.com) and your country, which our database host works out from your connection. Your IP address is not stored, no cookies are used and nothing is saved on your device, so the numbers can't be tied to you. We keep them for about 13 months.
With an account
Accounts are optional. If you create one, we store:
- Sign-in details: your email address and a scrambled (hashed) password, or, if you continue with Google, the name, email address and profile picture link Google shares. Only you see your email address.
- Display name: shown publicly next to your reviews and recipes. You can change it on the account page.
- Saved recipes: private to you, so they show up on every device you sign in on.
- Collections: their names, descriptions and recipes. Private ones are seen only by you. If you make one public, anyone with the link sees it with your display name.
- Ratings, reviews and photos: public, with your display name.
- Recipes you share: public once a moderator approves them.
- Reports you send: seen only by moderators.
Photos are resized in your browser before upload, which also removes hidden data such as the location where the photo was taken.
Where it is stored
- Supabase stores accounts, reviews, recipes, photos and the visitor statistics in its data centre in Stockholm, Sweden (EU). It also keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
- Netlify serves the website and keeps standard web server logs.
- Google is involved if you choose “Continue with Google”.
Why
We use your data to run the features you ask for (signing in, saving recipes, collections, publishing your reviews and recipes) and to keep the site safe (stopping spam and abuse, moderating content). We never sell it or use it for advertising.
How long
Until you delete it. Deleting a review or recipe removes it and its photo straight away. Deleting your account on the account page removes your profile, saved recipes, collections, reviews, recipes and photos. Copies can stay in database backups for a short time before they are overwritten.
Your rights
You can see and change your details on the account page and delete everything yourself at any time. You can also ask for a copy of your data or for something to be corrected. If you think your data is handled wrongly, you can complain to your data protection authority, which in Norway is Datatilsynet.
Age
You must be 16 or older to create an account. Anyone can use the recipes without one.
